DOLCE & GABBANA - SPRING/SUMMER 2013 l READY-TO-WEAR

by Raymond "Ube" Umpa

Sicilian vibe is in again with an aggregate of explosive colors emitting the vibrancy of the season, coupled with the artisanal touch of the island's outstanding penchant for handicrafts as seen in the collection's brassiere tops and skirts --- indeed, the boys did it again.

Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce's Spring 2013 Collection inundated the runway with vivid prints that reflect a mettlesome atmosphere radiating out utterly from the bandana headscarves, raffia sandals and winklespickers --- trends which transport us back in time, yet now, reintroduced again with more oomph.

The silhouettes were comparably evocative-seductive in a hodgepodge of full, pencil and short skirts in flowing light satin organza and silk cloque, as well as in the sweltering sultry presence of puff-ball beach rompers.

For the finale pieces, the house's signature Sicilian widow mantilla lace partnered with the elaborate full skirt dress made of straw stole the limelight --- a perfect way of ending the show with drama and lasting Sicilian impression.
